If you’re a Michigan native and have never tasted Vernors, well, then I’m just going to have to take your Michigander card away. Sorry, but you have to taste Vernors as a Michigander, or else you just aren’t the real deal.
Now, Vernors has finally released its much-anticipated new flavor, and it’s only available for locals. The Detroit company is coming out with its first new flavor of pop in decades: Black Cherry Ginger. That sounds delicious, especially since black cherry anything is my favorite.
Don’t worry if you’re a Vernors traditionalist, as the new flavor won’t replace Vernors ginger ale. The new sip will be available for a limited time only for residents living in Michigan and Toledo. This is actually the first flavor variation of the pop in more than 50 years, according to a release.
The new Vernors soda pop flavor is now available on store shelves in 20-oz and 2-liter bottles or as 12-pack cans. No word yet on how long it will be available, so if you see some, get it while you can. Vernors is one of America’s oldest sodas. The ginger ale brand has its roots in Detroit with James Vernors, who ran a drugstore on Woodward Avenue in the late 1800s and launched the soda. It’s crazy to think, but Vernors has been around for 156 years. My sito (grandma) used to give me Vernors all the time when she babysat me, so it definitely brings back fond memories. I still sip it when I have a stomach ache. If you try the new flavor, let me know what you think, and reach out to me on social media.
