A Local Must-Visit: The Michigan War Dogs Memorial in South Lyon – Meltdown
If you’ve ever driven up Milford road around 11 mile in South Lyon, you’ve probably seen the cemetery on the southwest corner. That’s the Michigan War Dog Memorial. While driving to a Father’s Day breakfast with the family, we decided to stop in and take a look around. Like many, I’ve driven by many times and had never stopped. I’m glad I did. It’s a special place for the four legged heroes who help to keep us safe.
I was lucky enough to meet some of the fine people that run this extraordinary place a few months back. Phil and Barbara are doing great work for these heroes.

I welled up thinking about the sacrifices these animals made, as well as the trainers and owners of these dogs. Many live with them and they become family. Having had to put my fair share of furry friends down, it’s never easy.

As you walk down each walkway, you see items left by their owners, who’ve never forgotten their friends.

It’s heartwarming and a proud feeling all wrapped up in one.

If you’re ever driving by, stop in for a few minutes….you’ll be glad you did as well.

Shelters take in tons of strays. When you adopt, you not only give that animal a new chance at life; you also make room for new animals to be brought in. The cost of the adoption always goes back to the shelter to supply them with new food and better care for the animals. Are you looking for a new four-legged family friend? Well, look no further! We have a great list of some of the best dog rescues in Michigan.
