The much-anticipated Boblo Island amusement park will have its theatrical release in September, kicking off with two weeks of exclusive showings in select Detroit theatres before making its way across Michigan.
“Boblo Boats: A Detroit Ferry Tale” is narrated from the viewpoint of the steamboat SS Columbia, voiced by Detroit’s Martha Reeves. The storyline follows preservationists’ work to help save her sister ship Ste. Claire.
In addition to the main story, the movie also follows civil rights pioneer Sarah E. Ray, who solidified the integration of Boblo Island in 1945.
“Boblo Boats: A Detroit Ferry Tale” will open in select Detroit area theaters on Sept. 16 and expand to more locations after a two-week run. Find more information here.
