Billy Joel Delivers Major Surprise at Michigan Show

Billy Joel performed live at Comerica Park in Detroit Saturday evening (July 9), one of three major shows happening at the ballpark over the weekend. As it turned out, the piano great had a big surprise up his sleeves, and it was a real treat for the crowd.

By the way, the concert marked Billy Joel's first show ever at Comerica Park. He offered up more than two hours of classics, truly defining why Joel is the world's "Piano Man."

So, what was the big surprise? The members of Def Leppard were in town, since Sunday night (July 10), Def Leppard's current tour with Motley Crue, Poison and Joan Jett rolls through the venue. As it turns out, Joel is friends with Def Leppard singer Joe Elliott, and he casually brought Elliot on the stage during the concert. The guys performed the Def Leppard staple "Pour Some Sugar on Me," and it was followed by a huge applause from the crowd. How often do you see these two guys share the stage together? Not often. Joel, 73, went on to entertain the crowd with a bevy of his greatest hits, such as “Keeping the Faith,” “Allentown,” “Piano Man,” “Movin’ Out,” “She’s Always A Woman,” Just The Way You Are," “Innocent Man" and many more. The encore offered “We Didn’t Start The Fire,” “Uptown Girl,” “It’s Still Rock and Roll To Me,” “Big Shot” and “You May Be Right.” But the big talk of the night was definitely the Joel-Elliott collaboration, since it was so unexpected. Will Joel serve as a special guest at Def Leppard's concert tonight at Comerica Park? Time will tell.
