Yesterday on Facebook and Twitter, I asked you guys for you favorite live music venues. You guys had some great answers, some places I need to get to. Personally, The Fox in downtown Detroit is my fave. Rich with history, breathtaking craftsmanship, just beautiful. During a recent interview with guitarist Joe Bonamassa, he told me that it was the nicest theater he’s ever played in. Take a look through the famed theater below.
Another venue I really like is the Machine Shop in Flint, Mi. There’s not a bad place to watch the show from anywhere in the building. Many of the staff have been there for a very long time, it’s like a family. Owner, Kevin Zink does a great job of taking care of the bands and patrons alike. It’s always an awesome experience. Plus, they have the coolest shirts!
The Token lounge. Another venue along the same lines as the Machine Shop. Small, loud, friendly staff and a cool owner. John Anton does his best to bring in some great bands, some you saw in much bigger venues as a kid are now in front of you at the Token.
Timbales of Thunder starring Miguel "El Mambo" and Sammy DeLeon (The Brothers) and Armando Vega & The 313 Orchestra The Token Lounge Jul 8 @ 10:00 PM $25.00 - $140.00
The Fillmore in Detroit is another. I’ve probably seen more shows down there throughout the years than any other downtown venue. There’s been some famous feet that have graced the stage of that place over the years. Dave Chappelle even taped his last special there.
The Fillmore Detroit is a beautiful historic venue located in the heart of Detroit's entertainment... 2115 Woodward Ave, Detroit, MI 48201
There are so many, these are just a few that come to mind in S.E. Michigan. I also LOVE the outdoor shows during the summertime, be it Pine Knob or the Michigan Lottery Amphitheater. I’ve been lucky to see concerts at many places across the country, including many along the famed L.A. Strip. I recently took a trip to Nashville to see a show at the famed Ryman Auditorium. But Red Rocks in Colorado is on my list to get to someday for a show.
