Michigan Has One of the Best Cities for Dating in the U.S.

Finding love isn't always easy. Actually, finding love is never easy. But, it helps if you live in a city that facilitates dating and meeting that special someone. As it turns out, one Michigan city is one of the best for dating in the entire U.S.

The crew at BestPlaces.net has put together a new study to determine the best cities for dating in America. Now, they did look at a pretty young demographic of ages 18-24, but even those outside that age group can benefit for the dating-friendly towns highlighted on this list. "The study is based on criteria that includes percentage of singles ages 18-24, population density, and dating venues per capita such as concerts, coffee shops, bars, bowling alleys, etc., and includes 80 metro areas in America," they state. "We teamed up with AXE Deodorant Bodyspray, which specializes in the dating game, to find out which city is revered as the D.C. (Dating Capital) of the U.S."

The study found some surprises. "Large cities that everyone associates with socializing, like Los Angeles and Miami, did not rank particularly high, scoring lower in categories like coffee shops per capita and flowers bought as gifts," Bert Sperling, president of Sperling’s BestPlaces, said in a statement.

So, which Michigan city made the cut? Ann Arbor, Michigan, is actually ranked inside the top 10 of cities for dating in America, coming in at No. 8. The study notes that Ann Arbor "scores in the 98th percentile for percentage of singles and ranks high in the dining out category, as well." Unfortunately, Michigan also has one of the worst cities for dating, according to the study, with Detroit coming in as the No. 4 worst city in the U.S. for meeting that special someone. The No. 1 best city in America for dating was Austin, Texas, and the No. 1 worst was Kansas City, Missouri. Find the full list here.

Valentine's Day, of course, always pops up in February, and that means single people get a whole day to be reminded that they're single. Honestly, Valentine's Day, in my opinion, should be a day to celebrate love in general, whether that's loving your pet, family or friends. But, the holiday always seems to center around romantic love.

For those looking for love, now, a new report shows that one Michigan city has the most single women in the entire U.S., making it, according to the study, one of the best in the U.S. for singles.

"Just in time for Valentine's Day - a new report analyzed US Census Bureau data to determine which major suburbs across the country had the highest percentage of single residents," the study, conducted by SolitaireBliss.com, states. They add, "It's not surprising that major metropolitans tend to attract more people. But single people don’t just live within the confines of major cities, there are plenty of singles out in the suburbs, who enjoy games like Solitaire!"

So, which Michigan city as the most single women in the entire U.S.? That honor goes to Detroit. According to the report, Detroit beat out Baltimore, Maryland, for the city with the most single ladies in America. That's not all, either. One Michigan suburb is also great for finding love, according to the study: Southfield. According to the report, 56.1% of residents in Southfield are single. If you're looking for a man, Michigan also ranked No. 2 for states with the most single men in the entire U.S. I think my single friends would disagree with that, but those are the numbers. Detroit also "boasts the most single people, with more than seven in 10 residents not reportedly married," according to the study.
