Do you think of Michigan as a glamourous place to live? I personally love it here, but I don't know if "glamourous" is exactly the word I would use. It's beautiful in Michigan, with all four seasons bringing a new experience. But, it's not really the fashion mecca of the world.

The crew at Lawnstarter.com has done a study to determine the most glamourous cities in the U.S. The very top ones are pretty obvious: San Francisco, California and No. 1 and New York City at No. 2.

For the study, LawnStarter.com made their rankings based on 35 indicators of exclusivity, such as household wealth, access to Michelin-starred restaurants and Fashion Week participation. So where does Michigan rank? According to the study, Michigan's most glamourous city is Detroit, and coming in at No. 66 out of about 200, that's a pretty good showing. Another Michigan city made the list, too- Grand Rapids at No. 81.

Major cities ruled the study. As LawnStarter.com states, "Most major U.S. cities landed at the top of our ranking. Indeed, the land of high-rises also is where you’ll often find restaurants and shopping with equally towering prices. Among those glamour hubs are billionaire capital New York at No. 2, home of the stars Los Angeles at No. 7, and high-roller heaven Las Vegas in ninth place. Miami (No. 3), Washington (No. 4), and Chicago (No. 6) also made the exclusive cut." Find the full list here.

Also interesting is the fact that cities with a warmer climate seemed to rank higher. "Nothing screams 'glamorous' more than a polished outward appearance," LawnStarter.com states. "But one characteristic not often associated with beauty is climate. Nearly all of the cities that placed in the top 10 of our Beauty category have warm or hot year-round weather. They include cities like Miami (No. 2), Honolulu (No. 5), Las Vegas (No. 7), and Scottsdale, Arizona (No. 8)."

It's a wild time to buy a house. The prices seem to just keep going up and up, with no end to this housing bubble in sight. I would love to buy my first hour, but like many, I'm being forced to wait until the housing market drops a bit, and it's anybody's guess when that will happen.

If you are buying a house right now, you should make sure it's in a good place to live, since you're likely paying a pretty penny for it. Thankfully, the folks at Niche.com have done the homework to determine the best places to buy a house in Michigan. They recently released a list of the best places to live in the state, factoring in both cities, suburbs, towns and city neighborhoods.

"The Best Places to Buy a House ranking provides a comprehensive assessment of the housing and community of an area," they explain the in the study. "This grade takes into account key factors of a location’s housing market, including home values, taxes, crime rates, and quality of local schools, in an attempt to measure the quality and stability of an area’s real estate market." They also look at aspects such as home value to income ratio, public schools grades, monthly housing costs, the cost of living, the higher education rate, the median home value and much more. Statistics are mainly obtained from the U.S. Census and represent the most recent data available, they state.
