Cedar Point Shutting Down Another Popular Ride in 2022
February is winding down, and pretty soon, it will be spring. I hope so, at least! With spring comes the opening of Ohio’s Cedar Point, one of the most popular amusement parks in the Midwest.
If you head to Cedar Point this year, make note that a popular ride won’t be there for the 2022 season. Last August, a Cedar Point guest was seriously injured at the park. As she was waiting in line for the Top Thrill Dragster, the woman was hit by a flying part off the ride and subsequently injured.
According to the Sandusky Register, the Top Thrill Dragster will not return for 2022. According to the publication, Cedar Point recently got back information from the investigation into the event from the Ohio Department of Agriculture’s Division of Amusement Ride Safety & Fairs.
“Investigators ultimately determined that fasteners connecting the flag plate to the ride failed in an ‘instantaneous overload fracture,’ causing the piece to dislodge,” the Sandusky Register states. “Cedar Point showed proof of routine inspections and repairs on the ride, and park staff told investigators there was no damage to the flag plate when it was inspected the night before the accident, the report states.”
The same report concluded that there was “insufficient evidence” that Cedar Point had violated any state laws. Are you bummed about this ride being closed? Reach out to me on social media and let me know- Facebook here and Twitter here!
