Towards the beginning of mayor Kyle Schlachter's time in office, he found out he wouldn't be the only mayor in Littleton, Colorado.

“They didn’t ask me about it,” Schlachter told Denver7 (via KJRH) about the change.

“We weren’t electing a human,” said Katherine Roxborough of Historic Littleton, Inc., told Denver7. “The candidates were of the canine sort.”

Littleton actually elected its first honorary dog mayor. The contest was to draw attention to historic preservation within the city. About 6,000 people voted in the dog race, about half as many votes as the actual mayoral election.
