As the omicron variant starts to take over the U.S., the University of Michigan's football team isn't taking any chances.
Michigan has scheduled a mass vaccination event for players, coaches and all staff to get booster shots before the team heads to Florida for the Orange Bowl.
The shots are set for Wednesday (Dec. 22). The team will head to Fort Lauderdale on Christmas. The game kicks off against Georgia at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 31.
“That’s definitely a growing concern of ours,” offensive tackle Andrew Stueber said (via the Detroit Free Press). “We’ve implemented masks in meetings, kind of maintaining social distancing. A lot of people are taking their meals to go now and not really sitting (together) too much. But it’s a lot safer now out there. A lot of students have left the campus (for winter break).”
