WRIF first started broadcasting true rock ‘n’ roll to the Motor City on On Feb. 14, 1971, and we’ve never looked back!

It’s been an honor to rock with you for the past 50 years, and we look forward to the next 50.

Let’s reflect on these major events and happenings in Detroit and around the world in the year 2016!

  • The Tigers were kept out of the playoffs for the second consecutive season.

  • The Lions finished the season tied with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for the last NFC playoff spot. They won the tiebreaker following their record against common opponents, so went to the Wild Card Round, but lost to the Seattle Seahawks.

  • The Pistons went up against the Cleveland Cavaliers in the first round of the 2016 NBA playoffs. They lost.

  • The Summer Olympics took place in Rio. Simone Biles earned four gold and one bronze.

  • The Cubs won their first World Series in 108 years.

  • Donald Trump was elected President.

  • Fake news started to flourish.

  • “Pokemon Go” was released in July.
