Pub Buys $43,000 Bottle of Whiskey
I knew whiskey could be expensive, but not this expensive.
Giant Eagle in Rocky River, Ohio guarded a rare shipment arriving from Ireland Wednesday night (Nov. 17). The 46-year-old bottle of Midleton Whiskey cost a whopping $43,000. It even required a police escort!
“It’s the rarest and most expensive Irish whiskey in the world right now,” Sean Gormley, the owner of Gormley’s Pub, who bought the bottle, told Fox 8. “This is the only one in the United States right now.”
The bottle is made of handcrafted Waterford Crystal. It’s housed inside a 200-year-old box made from ancient elm and rare Japanese Tamo. The whiskey was distilled decades ago in County Cork, Ireland, and has just now been released.
Want a taste? It’ll cost you. The pub will host a whiskey tasting charity event Dec. 6 and 7. Tickets run $2,350 and are nearly sold out.
