It’s been an honor to rock with you for the past 50 years, and we look forward to the next 50.

Let’s look back on these key events and happenings in Detroit and around the world in the year 2012!

  • The Tigers swept the New York Yankees in the American League Championship Series but lost to the San Francisco Giants in the World Series.

  • The Lions closed out the season with an eight-game losing streak, their worst since the 2008 season.

  • A gunman opened fire at a midnight screening of “The Dark Knight Rises” in Aurora, Colorado

  • Marvel’s The Avengers premiered in Hollywood, California.

  • U.S. President Barack Obama was re-elected for his second term.

  • Some people believed that the Mayan Calendar marked the end of the world when the calendar stopped.
