WRIF first started broadcasting true rock ‘n’ roll to the Motor City on On Feb. 14, 1971, and we’ve never looked back!

It’s been an honor to rock with you for the past 50 years, and we look forward to the next 50.

Let’s look back on these key events and happenings in Detroit and around the world in the year 2010!

  • Detroit’s Population was 713,777.

  • In April, the Pistons did not make it to the playoffs for the first time since the 2000–01 NBA season.

  • In May, the Red Wings qualified for the Stanley Cup playoffs, but they lost in the Western Conference Semifinal.

  • In October, the Tigers failed to make the playoffs.

  • Going into January, the Lions finished their season in 3rd place in the NFC North Division.

  • The Winter Olympics took place in Vancouver, Canada, in February.

  • The Burj Khalifa skyscraper in Dubai was officially up in January and deemed the world’s tallest building.

  • SpaceX successfully launched its Dragon capsule.

  • The Healthcare Reform Bill / Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act got the go ahead in Congress and was signed into law by President Barack Obama.

Anne Erickson started her radio career shortly after graduating from Michigan State University and has worked on-air in Detroit, Flint, Toledo, Lansing and beyond. As someone who absolutely loves rock, metal and alt music, she instantly fell in love with radio and hasn’t looked back. When she’s not working, Anne makes her own music with her band, Upon Wings, and she also loves cheering on her favorite Detroit and Michigan sports teams, especially Lions and MSU football.
