Weekends

Can you believe Christmas is just a few months away? I cannot! With the holidays on the way, the Michigan Department of Technology, Management & Budget has picked out the official 2021 state Christmas tree.

There’s a fun story behind the tree, too. I love stories like this one.

“We came to the cabin for the weekend and saw a note posted that said the state of Michigan was interested in a tree growing close to the cabin,” Carla Fletcher said in a statement. “I thought it was a joke at first, but decided to call the number. It’s amazing that our tree will travel to Lansing for the holidays.”

The spruce tree stands at a whopping 63 feet tall, according to a release, and will be harvested from Marenisco in the Upper Peninsula. It will be transported to Lansing with the assistance of the Michigan Association of Timbermen and the Great Lakes Timber Professionals Association and arrive downtown on Oct. 30.

The tree lighting ceremony is set for Nov. 19 at the 35th Annual Silver Bells in the City event.
