If you’ve missed out on seeing the northern lights when they’ve been visible lately, you have another chance.

According to the National Weather Service’s Space Weather Prediction Center, a G1 geomagnetic storm is likely to happen Thursday night (Sept. 30) into Friday. In other words, areas at high latitudes, such as Michigan, could get a nice view of the northern lights.

Most areas of Detroit are also expecting clear skies, making the chance to see the northern lights even greater.

To best spot to view the northern lights is an area with few obstructions and little pollution. Michigan’s Upper Peninsula has a variety of great spots, so if you’re heading up there for the weekend, make note.
