David Lee Roth Responds to Gene Simmons’ Critiques in Most DLR Way Possible

Author Erica Banas // Rock Music Reporter
August 20th, 2021 3:23 PM

David Lee Roth has fired back at Gene Simmons' recent comments about why he isn’t opening for KISS on their “End of the Road” farewell tour anymore. As expected, Diamond Dave wasn’t subtle.

Regarding DLR’s absence on the tour, which Roth was originally scheduled to appear as the opener, Simmons told Rolling Stone, “…it bears noting that during Dave’s heyday, nobody did what he did. He was the ultimate frontman. Not Plant, not Rod Stewart, nobody. He took being a frontman way beyond anything. And then, I don’t know what happened to him… something. And you get modern-day Dave.”

Simmons added, “I prefer to remember Elvis Presley in his prime. Sneering lips, back in Memphis, you know, doing all that. I don’t want to think of bloated naked Elvis on the bathroom floor.”

So, how did Roth respond? By sharing a black and white photo of a child wearing sunglasses and giving the finger with a caption on the photo that simply states, “Roth to Simmons:”

Here’s the kicker: Roth didn’t just post this image once; he published the photo to his Instagram 18 times! Whether there’s any significance to the number of times he shared the photo is unknown, but you better believe fans will be waiting for a response from The Demon.
