Michigan State University’s James Piot came back from a major deficit over the weekend to win the U.S. Amateur at the Oakmont Country Club in Pennsylvania, beating out Austin Greaser.

Upon the big win, Piot, a 22-year-old senior at MSU, was crowded by supportive friends and teammates as he accepted the honor.

Piot is still shocked that he’s a U.S. Amateur champion.

“Words can’t even begin to describe how amazing this past week was,” he said on Instagram. “I couldn’t be more thankful for everyone in my life that’s supported me and been there for me since day one, I never imagined I’d be a U.S. Am Champion.”

The win means Piot will be part of three professional majors next year: the Masters, the U.S. Open at Brookline and the British Open at St. Andrews.
