North Breakwater Lighthouse
Saturday (Aug. 7) is Lighthouse Day!
Michigan is fortunate to have a collection of great lighthouses across the state. Jade is actually a big lighthouse fan and has even taken tours of Michigan lighthouses!
Did you know the first known lighthouse was the Pharos of Alexandria, Egypt? According to the United States Lighthouse Society, it was built between 300 and 280 B.C. It was a whopping 450 feet tall. This lighthouse was also one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World.
The United States Lighthouse Society also says the oldest existing lighthouse in the world is La Coruna in Spain.
