University of Michigan Senior Wins Two Medals in Tokyo
Current University of Michigan senior Maggie MacNeil has not one but two Olympic medals from Tokyo.
MacNeil first scored an Olympic silver medal in a relay, as part of the Canadian 4×100-meter relay team on Sunday (July 25). Now, she has a gold and is the first women’s swimmer from the University of Michigan to win an individual Olympic gold medal in more than 50 years.
MacNeil triumphed in the women’s 100-meter butterfly for Team Canada on Monday (July 26) at Tokyo Aquatics Center. China’s Yufei Zhang scored the silver medal, and Australia’s Emma McKeon won the bronze.
MacNeil is the first women’s swimmer from the University of Michigan to take home an individual gold medal since Ginny Duenkel, who, coincidentally, won at the 1964 Tokyo Olympics.
