Man, it’s been a rough week in the world of rock. I learned today, while on vacation, that we’ve lost the legendary Dusty Hill.

I’ve had many more encounters and interviews with Billy Gibbons, but I did have one funny interaction with Dusty at a show in Detroit about 10 years ago. 3  Doors Down was opening up for ZZ Top on this particular tour, and I was standing on the side of the stage watching them when Dusty came over by me, and then RIFF rock girl, Juliet.

It was pretty loud on the side of the stage, but I started telling Dusty how I had to explain the red Eliminator car to the rock girl, and that she didn’t know what the letters TCB stood for on his coat. I think she might’ve been all  of 22 or 23 at the time. He chuckled politely and then walked away. Just then, a roadie came over and informed me that he didn’t want to talk to me, he just wanted to look at her! Fair enough. Ha!

He seemed like a genuinely nice guy, and he’ll be missed in the world of rock. My condolences to his friends, fans, and of course, Billy and Frank.
