Fried chicken is believed to be one of the most delicious foods on Earth when cooked properly. It even has a pretty lengthy history.

To many people’s surprise, fried chicken was actually invented by the Scottish and they were the ones who brought the dish with them to America. However, the first recorded recipes of fried chicken were in the 1830s and frequently appeared in American cookbooks of the 1860s and 1870s. Nowadays, chickens are bred to be suitable for all types of cooking, including frying. To fry chicken, it must cook at a high temperature very quickly. Old birds are actually tougher and require slower cooking times which is why younger chickens are sought after because they can handle the high temperatures and cooking times. Back in the late 1800s, when chicken breeding wasn’t a thing, these young chickens were only available in the spring and summer, which made this food item more of a luxury dish served on special occasions or holidays. However, after World War II, fried chicken became a more common dish.
