WRIF first started broadcasting true rock ‘n’ roll to the Motor City on On Feb. 14, 1971, and we’ve never looked back!
It’s been an honor to rock with you for the past 50 years, and we look forward to the next 50.
Let’s remember these major events and milestones in Detroit and around the globe in the year 1992!

In May, the Pistons finished third in the NBA’s Central Division.

In May, the Red Wings finished first in the NHL Norris Division. Steve Yzerman led the team with 45 goals, 58 assists, and 103 points.

The final presidential debate was held at Michigan State University in East Lansing on Oct. 19, 1992. George H. W. Bush, Bill Clinton and Ross Perot were running for office.

In October, the Tigers finished sixth in American League East.

In December, the Lions finished third in the NFC Central Division.

The 1992 Grammy for Record of the Year went to David Foster (producer) for “Unforgettable” performed by Natalie Cole with Nat King Cole.

The 1992 Grammy for Album of the Year went to André Fischer, David Foster & Tommy LiPuma (producers) for “Unforgettable… with Love” performed by Natalie Cole.
