Connect 313 and the Rocket Mortgage Classic are joining forces for a new program with the goal to help Detroit residents get better access to the internet.

The plan, called the Emergency Broadband Benefit, will provide a $50 monthly discount for internet access and a $100 one-time subsidy to purchase a laptop, tablet or desktop computer.

Roughly 40% of Detroit households are expected to qualify for the new program.

The program goes live starting at 3 p.m. today (June 7).

To apply, residents may call the center at (313) 241-7618.
