After over a year of being completely shut down due to COVID-19, Disneyland and Disney California Adventure Park are now open to the public again as of April 30th, but with a few changes.

Disney Parks Blog celebrated their opening day with photos of their employees and visitors, some crying tears of joy.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, CEO of Walt Disney Company, Bob Chapek said at the park’s reopening day, “We have waited so long for this. You can just feel the energy and excitement all around us.”

Although California currently has one of the lowest rates of new COVID cases across the country, Disneyland is still taking precautions to ensure the safety of all guests. Until further notice, only California residents may visit the parks, and in groups no larger than 3 households, in line with current state guidelines. In addition to mask-wearing, temperature checks, and reduced capacity, a few House of Mouse favorite experiences are still off limits.

One of the favorite experiences park-goers will have to hold out on is a hug from Mickey and Minnie Mouse, Best Life reports.

Disneyland Resorts updated its website with its new guidelines and park changes, including what isn’t allowed due to COVID. The site reads: “Some experiences are temporarily paused to accommodate physical distancing.” When mentioning “Character Greetings,” they say “while character meet-and-greets are temporarily unavailable, Characters are in our parks, in new ways, to entertain and delight Guests.”

Best Life reports that all Disney characters seem to be following COVID safety rules: Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, and Chip and Dale were all seen on opening day standing in their own private spaces and away from the crowds.

Parades and fireworks displays will not be held until further notice. As for what else is off limits at the parks, the Disney site lists Nighttime Spectaculars, Magical Makeovers at Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique, and Single Rider Queues.

Disneyland also recommends guests go cashless with contactless forms of payment, including debit cards, credit cards, Disney Gift Cards and mobile wallets like Apple Pay and Google Pay.

Tickets for Disneyland are sold out until the end of June according to their online reservation system. Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida, reopened in July 2020. Shanghai Disneyland Park in China, Tokyo Disneyland in Japan, and Hong Kong Disneyland have also reopened after closing during the COVID pandemic. Disneyland Paris, which first closed on March 12 last year was planning to reopen yesterday, but has yet to do so due to rising cases in France.
