It’s been an honor to rock with you for the past 50 years, and we look forward to the next 50.
Let’s remember these chief events and milestones in Detroit and around the world in the year 1978!

In January of 1978, possibly the most severe blizzard in Michigan history coated the state with huge amounts of snowfall.

In April of 1978, the Red Wings finished second in the National Hockey League’s Norris Division under head coach Bobby Kromm.

In April of 1978, the Pistons finished fourth in the NBA’s Midwest Division.

In October of 1978, the Tigers finished fifth in the American League East.

In November of 1978, Detroit Tigers’ Lou Whitaker was named as the American League Rookie of the Year.

In November of 1978, Michigan’s legal drinking age was raised from 18 to 21.

In December of 1978, the Lions finished in third place in the NFL’s Central Division under head coach Monte Clark.

The 1978 Grammy for Record of the Year went to Bill Szymczyk (producer) and The Eagles for “Hotel California.”

Famous birthdays from 1978 include Ashton Kutcher on Feb. 7, Kobe Bryant on Aug. 23 and Josh Hartnett on July 21.
“Happy Days,” “Little House on the Prairie” and “The Rockford Files” were some popular TV programs in 1978.
Anne Erickson started her radio career shortly after graduating from Michigan State University and has worked on-air in Detroit, Flint, Toledo, Lansing and beyond.
