Valerie Bertinelli briefly touched on how she’s doing following the passing of ex-husband Eddie Van Halen, the father to her son, Wolfgang.

In an appearance on Today, Bertinelli said, “It’s been rough, very bittersweet. [Wolfgang and I are] doing OK, we spent the holidays together. I’ll see him later today. We’ve been spending a lot of time together. It’s hard. I’ve gone to text [Eddie] a few dozen times and it’s like, ‘Oh, no I can’t text him right now.'”

Following Van Halen’s passing from cancer in October 2020 at age 65, Bertinelli released a touching statement via social media that read, “40 years ago, my life changed forever when I met you. You gave me the one true light in my life, our son, Wolfgang. Through all your challenging treatments for lung cancer, you kept your gorgeous spirit and that impish grin. I’m so grateful Wolfie and I were able to hold you in your last moments. I will see you in our next life my love.”

Bertinelli and Van Halen were married in 1981 and separated in 2001. They finally divorced in 2007.
