Meeting Billy F. Gibbons was a great moment in my life....one I'll never forget.

I met him after the 8 run, sold-out Kid Rock shows about 6 years ago at DTE. ZZ Top was opening. I talked to Billy for a few minutes and not wanting to take up too much of his time, I congratulated him for his induction into the Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Fame and all the success he’s had throughout the years. He then said “You’ll be there someday” to which I responded “No, I’m just a radio guy”. He looked at me and told me he knew who I was, which I’m pretty certain he didn’t. He then looked around the room a little bit, as there was this awkward pause, and then he motioned for me to come closer to him. I did, and as I could feel his whiskers on my ear, he said these words in that gravely voice “The people all need to be entertained”. To this day I’m not exactly sure what that meant, but let it be known that Billy Gibbons is always the coolest guy in any room.

Meltdown started on the mighty WRIF on the evening of Halloween, 1995. Technically, his first on-air shift was the morning of November 1st. Moving to the Motor City from Buffalo, N.Y., he has built a career and family. Over his almost three-decade stint at RIFF, he's had the privilege to work with some of the biggest personalities in Detroit radio history. He boasts of being just the second-afternoon drive jock in the station's illustrious 53-year history. Along with his love for rock music and attending concerts, he's also an avid Harley-Davidson enthusiast and hockey player. He plays year-round and manages to squeeze in a few charity games throughout the year. Meltdown writes about the Detroit Red Wings, rock music, and Detroit concert venues.
