The TCF Center, formerly the Cobo Center, looks like it’s about to go through another name transformation.
On Sunday (Dec. 13), Detroit’s TCF Financial Corp. announced a $22 billion all-stock merger with Columbus, Ohio’s Huntington Bancshares Inc.
Under the deal, which was unanimously approved by the boards of directors of both companies, TCF will merge into Huntington and operate under the Huntington name and brand. In other words, when the merger is official, the Huntington brand will replace the TFC name on the center.
The two companies coming together would make for one of the biggest banks in the country, with two headquarters: one in Detroit and one in Columbus.
The merger is on target to close in the middle of 2021.
