“Asylum After Dark” will host spooky tours at Traverse City’s former psychiatric hospital this fall.

The tours will start in October and take visitors through Cottage #30, located in part of the Village at Grand Traverse Commons development.

Attendees will be taken through four floors and get a hint of the same settings that residents of the old Traverse City States Hospital, also called the Northern Michigan Asylum, experienced. Tour guides will also give some history on the tour and talk about what life was like in the hospital when it was functional.

The tour are scheduled for Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights throughout October.

“Take a step back in time and experience a night at the Northern Michigan Asylum,” states the event’s official description. “Explore one of our most popular cottages from attic to basement as scenes from our historic past are played out in dramatic fashion.”

They add, “The sights, sounds… and darkness will leave you wanting to explore more! Join us for a bonfire after your experience and take home an exclusive piece of asylum history.”
