How much can a basketball card be worth? A lot.

Just ask LeBron James. The NBA star's 2003-04 Upper Deck rookie card recently sold for $1.845 million at Goldin Auctions.

That makes it the most expensive modern basketball card ever purchased, according to the National Basketball Association. Only 23 versions of the card were made, according to the NBA.

The card's new owner is reportedly Leore Avidar, the CEO and co-founder of Lob.com.

This LeBron James card just sold at @GoldinAuctions for $1.8 million, the record for a modern day card.

Winner is @LeoreAvidar, who says purchase is part of strategy to “bring something big to the collectibles and alternative asset business in the coming months.” pic.twitter.com/rN9lepvVpE
