Shad Gaspard, former WWE superstar, has died. He was 39.
Per TMZ, Gaspard went missing following a swim with his 10-year-old son at Venice Beach on May 17. Gaspard and his son, along with a number of other swimmers, got caught up in a strong rip current. A body was found on Venice Beach in the early hours of Wednesday morning (May 20) with the L.A. County Coroner identifying the body as Gaspard.
During the initial rescue on Sunday, TMZ reports Gaspard instructed lifeguards to tend to his son first.
Gaspard’s time with the WWE spanned from 2002-2006 and 2008-2010. He began by appearing on the reality television show Tough Enough 2 in 2002 and would later debut in Ohio Valley Wrestling (OVW), the then WWE development territory, in 2003. In 2006, Gaspard would form the tag team The Gang Stars with The Neighborhoodie. The team would make their main roster debut later that year on Monday Night Raw under the new name Cryme Time, with The Neighborhoodie also being renamed JTG. After being released from WWE in 2007, Cryme Time would return in 2008 for a two-year run.
