I was a Lumberjack yesterday, and I'm gonna cut you down to size! It was nice to be out in the air doing some manual labor. I also put a few miles on my Harley for the first time of 2020. Felt good to be back on motorized two wheels.
Speaking of chainsaws, many people don't know this, but I may've been the first person in the country to play "The Lumberjack" on the radio. It was back in 1992 and Jackyl had burst onto the scene with their first single "I Stand Alone". They were getting a lot of buzz because of that song and an incident that happened with the band, and mainly singer Jesse James Dupree. Jesse told me the story a few years back. The band had just signed their record deal and was to have a celebratory dinner/party at a local restaurant. Jesse proceeded to hop up on a table, fire up his chainsaw and carve the bands name into it. Well, this didn't go over very well. An older gentleman in the restaurant had no idea what was going on and suffered a heart attack. Jesse once told me it was the most expensive meal, he never got to eat!
Back to the Lumberjack song....my boss threw me the cd one night and told me to play something else off of it. Let me tell you, when you hear a guy playing a chainsaw on a song, you HAVE to play it. I did, the phones went crazy and the rest is history. Jesse and I have been friends ever since. He should be making a return to my Talkin' Rock podcast in the near future.

Look at that form! If you ever need a fill-in chainsaw player, I've got you covered, Jess.
Coming up this week on the blog, lots of hockey stories. Fox Sports Detroit is replaying the Red Wings Stanley Cup Final games starting Wednesday through Saturday at 8pm. Each day I'll give you a story about someone from that team.
