Meltdown: Lockdown – Day 241
I had a pretty decent Saturday. Got out and pounded 26 miles on the bicycle. I’m up to 216 total road miles for the year. Today, I’m going to try to get some stuff done around the yard. We need this weather to break!
The RIFF of the day is Dean DeLeo from Stone Temple Pilots. One thing I’ll always remember about STP is the very first time I had the chance to see them live. It was in the fall of 1992. “Sex Type Thing” was the first single of the debut album “Core” and I had been playing it on the radio for a few weeks. As the band swung through town, Scott Weiland – who just went by Weiland on that first record – came by the station for an interview. There was a couple things that made this interview ‘not great’. I’m sure being as green as I was, I wasn’t a good interviewer….the same could be said for a very young Weiland. I remember asking him what their current single was about. He looked down, kinda twiddling his fingers and said “Date rape is a serious issue”. So much for a fun filled afternoon of Rock N’ Roll!
After I got off the air I headed over to the local venue to watch the band. They were really good! Ripping through a set of songs that lasted about 45 minutes……all in front of maybe 30 people! After they finished they jumped off the stage and went right to the bar. Within the last 3 or 4 years I’ve asked every member of the band about that show. Three of the guys remember it vividly, one didn’t. You can probably guess who that was. LOL
Michael Poulsen from Volbeat is scheduled to be on my Talkin’ Rock podcast this week. Here’s an interview I did with him before the Metallica show at Comerica Park in 2017. He’s a fun guy to interview!
