Meltdown: Lockdown – Day Twenty Nine
I hope everyone had an enjoyable Easter. My wife did it up big-time at the homestead. It’s been a very long time since we’ve had Easter dinner at our house.
While she was slaving away at dinner, I was on the couch watching a movie. (Hey, I needed something to write about, right?) I watched the French/Canadian film The Decline. As described in IMDb “A fatal accident at a remote survivalist training camp sends participants into a panic – and sets the stage for a chilling showdown.”. It was a pretty decent, shorter film. Around an hour twenty, I blasted through it quickly. I thought it was good, although it’s in French so you have to read the subtitles. I’ll give it a 7 1/2 out of 10….would’ve been higher had I actually learned any French. LOL
For today’s challenge it’s a 70’s song you like. Man, there’s a challenge. I’ll just spit out “Somebody Get Me A Doctor” from Van Halen’s 1979 VH 2 album. Hard, crunchy, full Dave. This is a topic that could have many answers.
Finally today, I’ve really enjoyed watching the 1997 Stanley Cup finals on Fox Sports Detroit. Game 4 is coming up this week. I think the reason I really like it is because the city was really clamoring for hockey’s holy grail. It was building and that team pushed it over the edge.
I was lucky enough to have played hockey with a lot of those guys on that team in the following years. McCarty, Yzerman, Draper, Ward, Shanahan, Larionov, and the guy who would become captain, Nick Lidstrom.
During the lockout of 04/05 I was playing with the guys at the Troys Sports Center three mornings a week. During one skate, Nick cracked his stick. Afterwards I asked him if I could have the broken, but still complete, twig. He replied that he would give it to me on Monday, this being a Friday, because he had to go home and cut down another stick and wanted to use that stick as a a guide. Monday came and I was already on the ice when Nick skated by me as I stretched along the boards. In his typical “Perfect Human” way he said to me, “I got your stick”. Afterwards he asked me if I’d want him to sign it for me. Truly, a great guy!
This is the stick. Nick signed it “To Meltdown – Keep Up The Good Work”
