Meltdown

They said it would get worse, and it did. Even though he may have just died from old age, the loss of Tiger legend Al Kaline was a blow to the whole region. I'd never met "Mr. Tiger" but he seemed like a genuinely nice guy, and of course a hero to many. I'm not the biggest baseball fan but I had the chance to hang with Kirk Gibson a month back. It's guys like him and Al Kaline that give this region a glimmer of hope, unlike other parts of the country. R.I.P., sir.

Speaking of local sports and the glory days - it's been a while - Fox Sports Detroit was replaying game 1 of the Stanley Cup finals from 1997. Wow! It was so great to see a young Nick Lidstrom, Steve Yzerman, Kris Draper, Darren McCarty and down the line. From Shanahan to Fedorov and even Vladimir Konstantinov. Man, the memories flooded back.

Today's FourPlay At 4 will consist of songs to drive to, as in the WRIF 30 day music challenge. What you got?

We've been featuring a different guitarist for the month of April. Yesterday was Slash. I found this interview I did with him in 2012 in Taylor. I recall telling my wife that I was going to be interviewing him, while we ate dinner. My son looked up and couldn't believe it. I was perplexed as to how a kid of 8 or 9 even knew who Slash was. Well, it was because he had made some cameos on Phineas & Ferb. Watch the short interview below to get a taste of what Slash is like.

Meltdown started on the mighty WRIF on the evening of Halloween, 1995. Technically, his first on-air shift was the morning of November 1st. Moving to the Motor City from Buffalo, N.Y., he has built a career and family. Over his almost three-decade stint at RIFF, he's had the privilege to work with some of the biggest personalities in Detroit radio history. He boasts of being just the second-afternoon drive jock in the station's illustrious 53-year history. Along with his love for rock music and attending concerts, he's also an avid Harley-Davidson enthusiast and hockey player. He plays year-round and manages to squeeze in a few charity games throughout the year. Meltdown writes about the Detroit Red Wings, rock music, and Detroit concert venues.
