Meltdown’s Thursday Top 3: Top 3 Talkin’ Rock Interviews From 2019
One of the questions I get a lot is “Who is your favorite interview?”. I always like to say “The next one”, which is true, but looking back on 2019 a few stick out. Here’s the Top 3 Talkin’ Rock interviews……
3 – Dee Snider at Astronomicon in February. There’s a few reasons I really liked this interview. There was no time limit so Dee and I could really get into lots of topics. Also, it was in front of an audience. I don’t get the chance to do that very much. Plus, Dee is so well-spoken and very easy to interview. He relayed a funny story about playing over in Europe with a band he thought wasn’t going very far….ya know, Metallica! LOL (BTW, Dee’s latest album is killer!) You can listen to the interview here.
2 – Slash in May. Once again, there’s many reasons I like this interview. First off, Slash is so great to talk to and a world-wide rockstar. Secondly, he announced, that, yes, Guns N’ Roses would indeed be recording new material. Fans had hoped that would happen but no one confirmed it until Slash let it out with me. That interview covered lots of topics including his very small part in Motley’s “The Dirt”, when Axl brought Zakk Wylde into the band “in a desperate attempt to save GNR” and more…as he called in from Brazil. It might be the most listened to Talkin’ Rock interview of 2019. You can hear it here.
1 – David Lee Roth in September. This interview just flowed and hit on every topic I wanted it to. Talking to Dave is a little like herding cats. You have to bring him back to the center as he sometimes tends to drift. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE DLR and think he’s hysterical, but sometimes he gets a little off-topic. Dave broke some major Van Halen news when he told me that VH was finished. I posted this interview at 1pm and by 5pm it was on Rolling Stone! Here it is.
Other killer interviews included the one with Bumblefoot, David Ellefson from Megadeth and Frank Bello from Anthrax in-studio. David told me a few months later that he listened to it on the plane and it was the best radio interview he’s ever done. That was high praise from a guy who I really like.
Mike Levine from Triumph was so much fun. Staying up North, it was such an honor to talk to Geddy Lee…he didn’t disappoint. The Twiztid guys are always fun to talk with. I think I interviewed Jacoby from Papa Roach the most times. John 5 is always great! Tom Keifer has become a little bit of a friend and someone I talked to twice in 2019.
Happy listening!
