Meltdown’s Thursday Top 3: Top 3 Concerts Of 2019
Looking ahead to 2020, it’s already shaping up to be a great year for concerts. That being said, I thought I’d take a look back at some of my favorites from this past year.
As far as I’m concerned, outdoor shows are always my faves, in most cases. We’re cooped up for half the year here, so when you have a chance to enjoy the weather and a show it’s always better imo.
#3 – STP/Rival Sons. The show at Freedom Hill was killer on many levels. I had two great interviews with the bands before they took the stage, which you can listen to here. Plus, the new Rival Sons record is so good and STP is, well, STP!
#2 – Slash at Caesars Windsor Colosseum. I liked this show for a couple reasons. I’ve never been to a show there and it was pretty cool…..expect for the drinks lines. Secondly, Slash is just so good, and Myles Kennedy makes it look too easy. A month before that show Slash made some big news on my Talkin’ Rock podcast by announcing that GNR were going to start recording a new album.
#1 – Slipknot/Volbeat. Another killer outdoor show. Both bands were on top of their game. A great way to spend a mid-summers night.
As far as smaller shows go, I have to give props to John 5 at the Token Lounge. The guys is just unbelievable live. Not many guitarists can match 5.
Also, Tom Keifer and his band at Taylor’s Heritage Festival in June and at the Machine Shop in Flint. Not only are they great people, they kill it live and their new album “Rise” is one of my favorites of 2019.
