Meltdown’s Thursday Top 3 – Top 3 Randy Rhoads Songs
Friday December 6th, Randy Rhoads would’ve turned 63 if you can believe that! I thought today I’d share my top 3 songs from his Ozzy Osbourne era. Even though the sample size is small, it’s still hard to narrow down 3 songs from him because he was so good. He came into Ozzy’s life at a time when he had just left Black Sabbath and was literally going off the rails. Randy rebuilt his career and gave us two amazing studio albums to kick off the 80’s decade, and they still stand up today.
#3 – “You Can’t Kill Rock N’ Roll” – An epic song, by Ozzy standards. Also, one of many songs that has a guitar solo in the song and then after the final chorus. He did this with songs like “Mr. Crowley,” “Little Dolls” and “Tonight” as other examples.
#2 – “Revelation (Mother Earth)” – The classic off Blizzard Of Ozz shows off Randy’s classical sensibilities mixed with rock/metal stylings. Just so good! Plus, going into “Steal Away The Night” is so masterful.
#1 – “Diary Of A Madman” – Another prime example of how he blurred the lines of classical with rock riffs. He was the master at that. The song is structured so perfectly to build up to its final conclusion.
Obviously, “Crazy Train,” “I Don’t Know,” “Suicide Solution” and so on are all great. These are just my top 3….which could change tomorrow! LOL!
