Uber Drivers May Soon Be Able to Legally Record Audio on Riders During Trips

Uber has come under fire lately as cases of rape and sexual assault increase. In an effort to make both passengers and drivers feel safer, Uber has plans to roll out a new feature that will record the audio from both passengers and riders during a trip. Currently being tested in Brazil and Mexico, the passenger would be able to retrieve the audio from a trip once it ends. The rider can then send the audio to Uber and it can be used for investigating an incident. It can also be shared with law enforcement. There could be a setback with the feature coming to the United States. Laws in the US around consent to being recorded vary from state to state and can pose a setback to the feature landing on the US Uber platform.
