Russian Five Documentary Coming To TV This Wednesday

If you haven’t had a chance to watch the documentary on the Russian Five, your chance is coming.

The Russian Five tells the story of how Sergei Fedorov, Slava Fetisov, Vladimir Konstatinov, Slava Kozlov and Igor Larionov defected and then helped transform the Red Wings from perennial losers to back-to-back Stanley Cup Champions. You’ll see how players snuck under the Iron Curtain in the dark of night and came to Detroit, under Scotty Bowman, to build one of the greatest teams in history.

I saw the film last winter. It’s an unbelievable time-capsule that brought all sorts of memories flooding back. It’s a chance to re-watch the struggle, then the final push over the mountain to Stanley Cup champions. If you’re any sort of hockey fan, it’s a must watch!

You can check it out this Wednesday night, following NBCSN’s game between the Detroit Red Wings and New York Rangers.

Meltdown started on the mighty WRIF on the evening of Halloween, 1995. Technically, his first on-air shift was the morning of November 1st. Moving to the Motor City from Buffalo, N.Y., he has built a career and family.
