With another NHL season starting this week, I thought I’d count down my top 3 Red Wings. This is not and easy undertaking, but I’ll give it a shot.
#3 – Nick Lidstrom. There’s a reason they call him “The Perfect Human”. There is not much he did on, or off the ice that wasn’t the envy of everyone around him. One of the greats, not only in Red Wings history, but in the history of hockey. A truly great guy that I can call a friend.
#2 – Steve Yzerman. I mean, what more can be said for the Captain? I’ll just tell you this, I had a chance to play pick-up hockey with him during the 04-05 lockout. He was never the best player on the ice – he was nearing the end of his Hall Of Fame career by then – but guys always picked up their play when #19 was around. It was an unbelievable experience. I could go on and on….
#1 – Gordie Howe – no explanation needed.
So many guys could’ve been on this list. Datsyuk would probably be my #4 along with Federov. Shanahan, McCarty, Hasek, Osgood, Hull, Chelios, Probert, Zetterberg, Terrible Ted and so on. We’ve been very lucky in Hockeytown to have witnessed so many greats!
Who is your Top 3?
