The Future: Soldiers on Flyboards?
PARIS, FRANCE - JULY 14: Zapata CEO Franky Zapata flies a jet-powered hoverboard or "Flyboard" during the traditional Bastille Day military parade on the Champs-Elysees avenue Avenue on July 14, 2019 in Paris, France. At the invitation of French President Emmanuel Macron, a dozen European leaders, including German Chancellor Angela Merkel and President of the European Commission Jean-Claude Juncker participate in the traditional parade of July 14 which is placed this year under the sign of European military cooperation. France held their Bastille Day military parade over the weekend . . . and the thing everyone’s talking about is a man who rode a turbine-powered flyboard above the festivities. He’s a military reservist, but he’s also the guy who invented it.
It looks like something out of a sci-fi movie. He’s wearing a protective suit and helmet, and is holding a rifle. It’s fast too: It can reach 118 miles-per-hour. A French official is already talking about how to use it in the military.
