DUBLIN, IRELAND - MAY 17: Mick Jagger of The Rolling Stones performs live on stage on the opening night of the european leg of their No Filter tour at Croke Park on May 17, 2018 in Dublin, Ireland.

The Rolling Stones like to include some surprises in their setlist, but considering they haven’t played this tune in 50 years, this one really was unexpected.

During the Stones’ show in Landover, Maryland at FedEx Field on Wednesday (July 3), the band performed “Mercy, Mercy,” the Don Covay & The Goodtimers cover from their 1965 album Out of Our Heads. Setlist.fm shows the Rolling Stones last performed the song during their Hyde Park show on July 5, 1969, which was dedicated to former guitarist Brian Jones who had died two days prior.

Considering it had been so long since performing the track live, Mick Jagger prefaced the song with, “It’s a long time ago, so we’re going to try to remember it.”

Video of the performance, as well as the setlist, can be viewed below.
