AQABA, JORDAN- APRIL 4: Tourists and Jordanians enjoy riding on a speed boat during the weekend on April 4, 2015 in the southern city of Aqaba, Jordan. Jordan tourism stakeholders had put together an urgent marketing plan to salvage the Kingdom's tourism industry by promoting national tourist products in new and traditional markets worldwide, according to Tourism Minister Nayef Al Fayez. Visits to Jordan and its famous archeological site of Petra have plummeted because of unrest in the broader Middle East, and discounts on airfare and tours to the country have yet to bring visitor numbers back to levels seen in years past. The number of Arab tourists has not been affected by the regional turmoil, but the number of visitors to archaeological sites has recently dropped and those who visit these sites are mostly non-Arabs. It was not made clear what 39-year old Timothy Kennedy was so angry about, but the police were contacted shortly after the incident and Kennedy was arrested and arraigned on charges of operating while intoxicated and malicious destruction of property.
Nobody was injured during the incident, but the victim’s boat did suffer extensive damage.
