VIDEO: A ‘Freaks & Geeks’ Tribute to John Bonham
16th September 1970: British rock band Led Zeppelin collect their geode awards after being voted top British group in the Melody Maker Pop Poll in London. From left to right, they are Jimmy Page, Robert Plant (who also won the Best British Singer award), and John Bonham.
Television has been responsible for some incredible tributes, but this tribute to John Bonham on the cult classic series Freak & Geeks is one of the funniest.
Set in suburban Detroit in 1980, the show follows the awkward high school lives of Lindsay Weir (Linda Cardellini) and Sam Weir (John Francis Daley) and their friends, and among those friends is Nick Andopolis (Jason Segel), a massive Led Zeppelin fan.
In the clips below, Nick is humorously distraught over the death of John Bonham, and then later in the same episode tries to use his grief as an excuse to get the second base with Lindsay.
It goes over about as well as you’d expect.
