Yahoo Messenger Is Officially Shutting Down
I mean, who still uses this anyway?
On July 17, Yahoo will be shutting down the messenger app for good, and is suggesting Yahoo Squirrel as it’s replacement.
CNET quotes Yahoo, saying the following:
“As the communications landscape continues to change over, we’re focusing on building and introducing new, exciting communications tools that better fit consumer needs.”
This comes after Oath shut down AOL Instant Messenger to “focus on new products” last year.
If you do, in fact, use Yahoo Messenger, CNET quotes that you can download your chat history on the “downloader request site” with your Yahoo ID before the site shuts down. This does not mean your Yahoo ID will not work for mail or Flickr, you’re still good there.
