Puchalski Municipal Building to apply for a marriage license May 17, 2004 in Northampton, Massachusetts. They joined couples who began applying for licenses and marrying throughout the state as Massachusetts became the first state in the U.S. to legally marry same-sex couples, due to a state Supreme Court decision last year.
