VIDEO: Lyric Video For STP’s “Meadow”
Out today (December 15) is a lyric video for “Meadow,” the first track Stone Temple Pilots has released with new singer Jeff Gutt.
The colorful clip features the group’s butterfly logo, flowers and plenty of psychedelic imagery as the song’s lyrics pop on and off of the screen.
“Meadow” is one of the first songs STP wrote with Gutt, and guitarist Dean DeLeo tells us it helped to secure the singer’s place in the band:
“That was a song we wrote awhile back. Jeff wasn’t around on the session; It was one of the songs we threw at Jeff…We had that song tracked a little while back with Robert, Eric and myself, and that was one of the songs we threw at Jeff…We really threw him right into the fire, man. We went right to Robert’s house, had the mic set up, like, ‘OK, let’s see what you got,’ and that was one of the songs. he wrote a melody for it that day along with, I think, about five other songs…We wanted to see what ability he had rather than go for any keeper stuff…I’m saying it was an audition, basically.”
Gutt tells Billboard that “Meadow” “was really raw in the beginning. More than anything I tried to feel the music and let the music tell me where to go, and I never really tried to force anything. I was just going for vibe, and it wasn’t about the lyrics right away. I was just mumbling kind of a melody, but most of that is what we ended up keeping and it got the ball rolling and I put the lyric in afterwards. I tried to just really go with what was given to me, and that’s what came out.”
STP will be putting out a new album during the spring, though no title and release date have been announced yet. Tickets for the group’s tour, which begins March 2, go on sale at noon EST today.
