A woman in Virginia faked her death a few years ago so she and her husband could collect her life insurance . . . and go on a shopping spree for a bunch of fancy cars. But they got caught, and they both just pleaded guilty to several fraud charges. Now they're looking at up to 30 years in prison.
NEWPORT NEWS A Portsmouth woman faked her death, went on a cross-country fraud scheme and bought 20 luxury vehicles with her husband, prosecutors say. The scheme began in August 2015, when Alexandra Hatcher, 49, traveled to Washington state and changed her name.
